Industry Gurus Fired Their First Shots in AI Summit
On October 30th, 2020, Dr. Jili Chung, the author of Innovation’s Crouching Tiger and the founder of SpringIP Group, gave a talk on “AI Use-Case in the Upgrading and Transformation of Small-to-Medium-Sized Enterprises’– Secrets Revealed and Lessons Learned from Leading Companies Using Innovation to Increase Profitability” at the Digital Engine AI+, Cross-border Integration Summit Forum, hosted by BRICE Valley Entrepreneur Elite (International) Club.  The heat of the topic and prominence of the summit attracted news coverage by International Channel Shanghai (ICS) and other influential media outlets.

ICS new reporter queried how AI may help enterprises having a burning need to upgrade and transform themselves under the pressure of Covid-19 and the trade war.  Dr. Chung expressed his positive view.  He told the reporter that AI could play an effective role in this process, provided that the AI application shifts the current focus from “vertical mining” to “horizontal integration” and emphasizes more on perceptual (i.e., visual or insightful) presentation.  This is also the direction to which SpringIP group commits itself.

A news reporter from Jiading Streaming Media was curious about how local governments can better attract AI enterprises. In his response, Dr. Chung started by emphasizing that AI enterprises are different from traditional manufacturing enterprises in two aspects. First, they rely on brainpower, not on heavy investment in plants or machinery; second, they rely more on trade secrets, rather than patents, to protect their inventions.  Therefore, to attract AI enterprises, local governments should broaden the scope of evaluation on the potential of an AI enterprise beyond investment amounts and records on papers.  The local government should also apprehend how intangible property contributes to the development of AI industries.

In the forum, ten industry gurus engaged in in-depth conversation about the commercialization and applications of AI technology and the transformation of traditional industries from the perspective of global strategy and enterprises’ actual practices.  They also exchanged ideas with the audience on the in-depth integration of AI, cloud computing, IoT, 5G, semiconductors, and healthcare, and the outlook on how AI and big data help SMEs in transforming, upgrading, and driving profits to become leading industry players.

In this presentation, Dr,. Chung shared several insights from his new book Innovation’s Crouching Tiger, to be released in November on eleven Amazon distribution channels. It is the first book dedicated to introducing China’s innovation ecosystem to global elites in English, and will be translated into Italian, Spanish, French, Japanese, and German.
