On September 14th, SpringIP NFT2O3D Team assisted Italian artist Maurizia Galvan in the release of her NFT artwork on a local exchange platform in China, promoting cross-border branding and IP exploration in the global metaverse.
A Breakthrough for Embracing Global IP Operations

According to SpringIP NFT2O3D's research, no foreign artist has ever released an NFT in China. Galvan expects this handmade leather NFT to become a breakthrough and the first of its kind in cross-border, cross-cultural, and creative exchange in the worldwide NFT field.

Currently, the Chinese NFT market restricts secondary trading.  To dodge regulatory risks, market players usually use the term "digital collection" instead of NFT.  As such the NFT market in China is less active in comparison with the global market; however, this restriction does not prevent IP from being transferred or licensed cross borders.  Using their IP tactically, art creators may break through regulatory restrictions and legally participate in the global metaverse content market.

For example, according to the analysis of SpringIP NFT2O3D's team, Li-Ning International has imported and utilized the IP of the global leading NFT “Bored APE” in China.  The Winter Olympics mascot, Bing Dwen Dwen, has made a big splash in the global NFT market by utilizing IP which originated from and was “exported” from China.

Artists and talents from around the world are beginning to see the potential of commercializing their IP directly on local Chinese NFT platforms.

Double Role: Artist and Entrepreneur

Maurizia Galvan, also known as  Xiaomao(小毛), is in the forefront of this wave.  Xiao Mao is from Italy, but graduated with a master's degree from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in China and speaks fluent Chinese. Her transnational and cross-cultural background enable her to excel in the fields of cultural education, business, and art exchanges.

She has assisted the Italian Academy of Arts in recruiting students from China, handled wine import and channel management, and maintained extensive contacts with the Italian design community.

Xiaomao founded the Xiaomao Luxury Wines brand in China, bringing innovative ideas to the imported wine industry, making a simple bottle of wine into a work of art, furniture, handicrafts, collectibles, and jewelry bottles.

The experience of working and studying in China for nearly ten years pushed Xiaomao to take on the Chinese market to realize her dream.  Step by step, she is building her understanding of aesthetics and life into an influential, high-end, international brand.

Living Aesthetics and Sustainability Values

We see Xiaomao adopting a spirit of experimentation in her own work and by collaborating with other artists. Xiaomao Luxury Wines cooperated with Italian handmade leather artist and brand name Creazioni Salesi to artistically upcycle discarded leather and wine bottles, breathing life into what often becomes wasted material and leading artistic innovation to a new level.

The distinguished point of Xiaomao's creation is to give each wine bottle its own personality, with innovative and unique packaging. She created customized handmade leather packaging for each bottle of wine, so that the product is not simply a bottle of wine but becomes a work of art, collectible, and unique handicraft.

The value of this kind of creation lies in its ability to create an emotional connection with each consumer through its considerate design. This human-centered design approach provides value which is both impressive and lasting, showing us how functional products can be transformed into something memorable with a lasting connection.

Five Kinds of Limited Edition Digital Products

The NFTs released by Xiaomao were issued in the form of “non-native digital art creation” (i.e., the digital photocopies of material objects) to introduce sustainability and high-quality emotional value to more high-end consumers through unique design concepts.

This release covers a total of five types of NFTs, representing different creative concepts, including:
Picture
  • The Charleston series, black: applies the most classic fringe elements to leather craftsmanship, which reflects the true portrayal of dancing the Charles while drinking cocktails at night, portraying the sensual and unrestrained woman.

  • The Charleston series, bright colors: vividly reflects the self-confidence, freedom, and individuality of the woman with their own unique light.

  • The Snake series: a leather strap structured with metal-like wraps around the bottle, as if a snake wants to be the protagonist of the bottle. The snake's skin changes to represent rebirth; the orange version is dazzling, and the subtler gray version is noble.

  • The Vintage Collection: the shape is inspired by medieval corsets, with leather wrapped around the wine bottle like a corset for a very classic look. The colors are inspired by pop-art, emphasizing novelty and bold color schemes. The Vintage collection combines both classic and avant-garde elements to create a unique vintage beauty.

  • The most meaningful NFT is Xiaomao's original hand drawing. It faithfully shows the inspiration and brushstrokes of creation. Xiaomao shared her work with art and culture lovers in the most authentic way, fully demonstrating the unique value in using NFT technology to preserve precious information.

Branding in the Metaverse through Two-Objects-Three-Dimensions (2O3D)

The emergence of the metaverse and the application of Web 3.0 are having an unprecedented impact on the fashion industry. The SpringIP NFT203D team has found that influential global brands such as Nike and Hermès filed lawsuits for trademark infringement against Stock X and artist Mason Rothchild. These tussles show the still uncertain legal framework in the metaverse.

On the other hand, this change is creating unprecedented opportunities for young brands. It is difficult for large enterprises to quickly adjust their business models and IP strategies to capture business opportunities in the metaverse due to their sheer size and complicated histories.  In contrast, artists, IP creators, or start-up teams can use various platforms to flexibly explore Web 3.0 business models and conduct various market tests. Xiaomao's NFT issuance is a shining example.

Outside the metaverse, traditional fashion brands occupy most of the resources and business channels. With their massive popularity, their IPs are difficult to shake or counter.  However, in the metaverse, new value allocation approaches, business models, and community interactions are providing an excellent opportunity for start-up brands to “overtake the corners”, who also dare to “hit the gas” (“gas fees” are needed for minting NFTs).

The competition faced by traditional fashion brands is not just a simple issue regarding intellectual property. According to SpringIP NFT203D team’s analysis, complexity and competition in the metaverse may be three times that in the real world, all due to the unique characteristics that shape the metaverse. It will take intellectual property strategies, multinational brand management, and balanced financial planning to excel in this new domain.

Carlo Geremia, an Italian legal expert who serves in Shanghai, has repeatedly reminded companies that in this type of transnational innovation, they must take more active and proactive measures to manage intellectual property risks.

Faced with this new game, it is necessary to analyze the risks and opportunities of IP management comprehensively and effectively in the metaverse, no matter if it is the challenger or the defending champion.  This is where NFT2O3D comes into play.

SpringIP NFT2O3D Team is the IP Architect of the Metaverse

SpringIP NFT2O3D team is the IP architect of metaverse, with a focus on exploring the new IP strategies of the metaverse and enabling global operation of NFT. Like this, clients can achieve their business goals in realizing the complete value of their IP in global markets and manage their global assets by way of IP investment.

NFT2O3D’s analytic methodology helps to manage the risks of NFT projects, participation in the global metaverse, and capturing Web 3.0 business opportunities.   This will help clients focus on global IP wealth creation without worrying about complicated technical and compliance details.

The SpringIP NFT2O3D team has planned NFT projects in several fields, such as illustration, printmaking, film, professional services, traditional culture, branding, fashion, wine, tourism, and non-profit public affairs initiatives.
